黎锦晖（1891－1967），生于湖南湘潭，"黎氏八骏"之一，也是中国流行音乐的奠基人。黎锦晖自幼学习古琴和弹拨乐器。家乡民间音乐和当地流行的湘剧、花鼓戏、汉剧等戏剧音乐对他影响至深。1927年，他创办了"中华歌舞学校"，后又组建"中华歌舞团"。1929年组织"明月歌舞团"，并到全国各地巡回演出。1931年，"明月歌舞团"并入联华影业公司。1949年后，他在上海美术电影制片厂担任作曲。他创作的《桃花江》、《特别快车》、《夜深沉》、《小小茉莉》、《妹妹我爱你》等是中国最早的流行歌曲。他的流行歌曲集《家庭爱情歌曲100首》，由上海文明书局分16册出版，在当时的中国产生过巨大的影响。他还把中国流行歌曲推出国门。一位美国音乐人出版了《黄色音乐》（黄种人群的音乐）一书，把黎锦晖称为"黄（肤）色音乐第一人"，并指出：黎锦晖将中国音乐的发展向前推进了"至少二十年"。黎锦晖将西方爵士乐与中国本土民族音乐结合后，在中国乃至东南亚推广，为中国音乐向国际化发展做出了贡献。又有人称黎锦晖为中国儿童歌舞剧之父。他创作的歌舞剧《麻雀与小孩》、《葡萄仙子》、《神仙妹妹》、《小羊救母》和儿童歌舞表演曲《好朋友来了》、《三个小宝贝》、《谁和我玩》、《可怜的秋香》等，在当时的儿童心中留下了难以磨灭的印记。而他1928年编剧并作曲的《小小画家》，则被认为是20世纪中国歌剧的滥觞。
