赵季平（1945—），出生于甘肃平凉，长期生活在陕西。1970年7月参加工作，长期从事音乐创作。自1984年为电影《黄土地》作曲以来，先后为四十多部影片作曲，其中为《大阅兵》、《红高粱》、《菊豆》、《五个女子和一根绳子》、《大红灯笼高高挂》、《烈火金钢（上、下）》、《心香》、《秋菊打官司》、《霸王别姬》、《活着》、《炮打双灯》、《步入辉煌》、《黄沙?青草?红太阳》、《变脸》、《风月》、《日光峡谷》、《秦颂》、《孔繁森》等影片所作音乐多次在国内和国际电影节上获奖。赵季平赢得了电影音乐界的高度评价和赞誉，成为我国目前电影音乐界获奖最多、奖次最高的音乐家。1998年作为大陆唯一一位音乐家，他的作品被美国华纳?特得克古典唱片公司签约录制。2000年6月他创作的交响音乐《太阳鸟》、交响叙事诗《霸王别姬》由柏林爱乐交响乐团在一年一度的"森林音乐会"上演出，受到热烈欢迎。同年7月他的室内乐作品《关山月——丝绸之路印象》被大提琴家马友友选中，在美国成功首演。
